Type 1 and Type 2 hard hats differ mainly in the direction of impact protection they provide. A Type 1 hard hat is designed to protect only against impacts to the top of the head, such as falling objects, and typically features a basic suspension system inside. In contrast, a Type 2 hard hat offers a higher level of protection by guarding against impacts to the top, sides, front, and back of the head. Type 2 models include additional padding or foam along with a more advanced suspension system, making them better suited for environments where workers face risks from side strikes, swinging hazards, or falls.
